Formal Pen Ink
All of the fountain pens on this site come with an initial ink cartridge. But half of the enjoyment of formal pens is using your own ink. Using your own ink allows you to customize the color and consistency of your writing, adding a personal touch that you can't get with traditional pens.
We encourage you to go out and experiment with different inks and find the colors that fit you best. Here are some of our favorites to get you started.

Iroshizuku
Iroshizuku inks, made by Namiki, is a well reviewed ink for general use. The Iroshizuku brand actually encompasses over 20 different ink colors, but what ties them together is a strong intensity of color that lasts forever. Our favorites are the Take-Sumi (black) and the Shin-Kai (deep blue). Always a solid choice!

Pelikan
Slightly less intense than Iroshizuku while still keeping a vibrant tone, Pelikan is a great ink for professional settings. It dries very quickly on paper, making it great for quick notes and signatures. A solid choice for any fountain pen. |
Waterman
Something slightly less orthodox, Waterman delivers a rich brown color that stands out from other inks. Waterman flows incredibly smoothly, making it ink efficient and rich. Great choice for somebody seeking a more retro look for their writing.
